Abigail Layman
Abigail and her three sisters were formally known as
the Coetzee Sisters while singing in their father’s
church and his tent campaigns assisting him in his
ministry. After matric she went full-time with her
sisters touring in America, U.K., Uganda, Reunion
Island, Hawaii and the whole of South Africa.
The REAL Sisters recorded three albums-‘Introducing
REAL, ‘REAL Blessings’ and ‘In Season’.
The sisters then changed their name to the ‘REAL
Sisters’ in 1987. Abigail was one of the lead
singers in the group until they dissolved-they got
married and started their own families in the year
2000.
Abigail has shared stages with the likes of Clark
Sisters, Yolanda Adams, Helen Baylor, Franklin
Graham Crusades, Helena Barrington, Rebecca Malope,
and Mara Louw.
Abigail won Best Female Vocalist in 1993 with ‘Shell
Road to Fame’ competition.
She was then invited to represent South Africa in
the Euro Vision
Competition which was held in Gabone in 1993.
Abigail was part of the musical ‘Poison’ in 1995
where she was on of the lead actresses. The musical
was performed at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town,
Port Elizabeth and Malaysia. For this musical she
was nominated as ‘Best New Comer’ at the SAMA
Awards.
