Basadi Le Maropa is South Africa’s foremost female marimba band. Representing the strength, talent and optimism of African women, Basadi provide a refreshing performance filled with original compositions, choreography, colourful costumes, exhilarating drumming, melodic marimbas and beautiful accapella vocals.
Basadi Le Maropa was formed by The Drum Cafe in 2003 as a group of unique multi skilled performers who sing, dance, play marimbas and drums. Their repertoire is made up of popular South African songs and original compositions.
Basadi Le Meropa has performed all over South Africa on the corporate circuit and has toured Netherlands and Belgium for the Festival Mundial. They were featured performers for South African President Thabo Mbeki at the opening of Parliament, and at the Opening Ceremony of the Women’s World Cup Cricket. Basadi also participated in the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony in 2008 and in 2010 performed on stage with Shakira at the FIFA World Cup Kick Off Concert.
