Is a DJ as good as a Band?

In short, yes. Some of our biggest music celebrities are DJs and in general they cost less than a full band.

Few things make an event fall apart faster than a silent room packed with your corporate guests barely talking to one another, and all that can be heard is a lone cricket in the background, its noise travelling from an open window at the far side of the room.

No chit chat can really be a loud sound and the ambiance can dwindle into an emotion of disappointment, and the main memory of your event.

So!

Cut down on the spending of center pieces and décor and get some music! We know there is not always space or budget for a full band and a DJ is an ideal solution and by no means a compromise on quality.

To celeb, or not to celeb?

The main differences between celeb DJs and Function DJs are extreme. A function DJ comes in at a much more affordable rate, about ¼ of the fee, if not less. A function DJ in most cases provides the sound equipment. An average duration for a celeb DJ set is 1 hour whereas a function DJ is 4 hours. Of course, no one can deny a celebrity DJ carries a brand and can often be a huge brag factor for an event.

Side note.

Some might ask why not use a staff member to DJ and hire a sound system? Our answer to this questions is simple: unless you are prepared to deal with technical glitches, a tweaky speaker and having to restart your playlist all night, normally using a single persons music preference, there are very real benefits of booking a professional function DJ.

Let’s talk costs!

Of course, you’re wondering about the prices, and you’d be surprised at how affordable a function DJ can be. Spend start at R6 000 ex vat and this often includes technical. Not a bad price for about four hours of entertainment when you consider a band is above R25 000 and you still need to provide their technical.

Of course, if you’re looking at celebrity DJs to bring a bit of star power to your next event, you might have to increase your budget, and most start from R12000-R30 000 but can be as much as R100 000.
