In September of 1995, Jeff Maluleke, then signed to
CCP Records as Papa Jeff, approached the record
company with a rough four-track demo containing what
was to become the starting point for HAGONYA. Gone
was the township pop of Papa Jeff which had already
earned him a gold record and in its place was a new
sound that Jeff saw as the future direction of his
music.

Jeff Maluleke was born and raised in semi-rural
South Africa, Bushbuckridge in the heart of
Mpumalanga Province in the Northern region of the
country. From his days as a youth in this region his
interest in music was apparent from an early age,
and a firm foundation was set for his musical
career.
His solo musical career began in earnest in
September of 1995 when Jeff approached the CCP
record company with a rough four-track demo
containing what was to become the starting point for
HAGONYA.
Gone was the township pop of Papa Jeff which had
already earned him a gold record (with sales upwards
of 30 000 units) and in its place was a new sound
that Jeff saw as the future direction of his music.
The quality of music attracted some of SA's finest
musicians to do session work

Maluleke has received numerous accolades for his
work over the years including two Kora All Africa
Music Awards for the album Kilimanjaro in 2001
as well as a SAMA for the beat African Pop
for the same project. Maluleke has however only
touched the surface of his inherent music well as he
reckons he is just getting started.

Maluleke states, this is the birth of world music in
this country, with regards to his brand new album he
titles Ndzilo (fire). The luminous star feels he
still has much to prove and has his sights set on
greater local recognition and at the same time he
hopes to show his musical worth to an international
audience.
