Mad Love
- Band - Johannesburg
MadLove has been described by the Citizen newspaper,
as "Joburg's hottest new rock band" and one listen
to MadLove's music will prove just that. Having
gigged the local circuit for the last few years,
MadLove is ready to unleash it's music onto the
world - Rock n Roll style...
MadLove has performed in Pretoria, Johannesburg,
Grahamstown, Kwazulu Natal and are planning tours to
Namibia, Mozambique, Cape Town and Bloemfontein in
the near future.
In a short amount of time, MadLove has already had
the privilege of playing alongside some of South
Africa’s best, and most notable musicians,
including, Freshly Ground, Prime Circle, The
Parlotones, Evolver, Arno Carstens and New Porn. |

Mad Love
Nikolai Viedge (Lead Guitar), Shahir (Lead Vocals)
and Shahan Chundra (Rhythm Guitar) met while working
at Exclusive Books. At their first test gig Nicholas
‘Smithy’ Smit (Bassist) joined the band. The great
name hunt commenced for the as yet unnamed band, and
sms’s flew back and forth with various suggestions
considered. It was a random sms from Nikolai to
Shahir, detailing the perils of love, ending with
the words MadLove that sealed the name of the band.
The brothers’ childhood friend, Shakti Satyapal
(Drummer) decided to buy a drum kit in order to be
part of the band. He had never played drums before
this. Mad Love’s 1st gig as a five piece band was
the Global Battle of the Bands in 2004.
Unfortunately a year later, Smithy emigrated to the
UK and a huge bassist hunt began. |

Eventually Smithy was replaced by the insanely
talented Grant Sissons, frontman and songwriter from
the band Mugshot. Their musical influences are
spread across the board – U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers,
Goo Goo Dolls, Nirvana, SoundGarden, Sting, and the
list goes on. This eclectic mix of musical interests
birthed a rock sound that is both dynamic and
unique.
Their much loved stage show is energetic and
exciting driven by the great chemistry, friendship
and mutual love for music, the boys share. |
