Four of the six members are songwriters and singers.
From the DRC, we have Tresor Riziky, main
songwriter, lead vocalist and acoustic guitar.
Tresor's vocals have been likened to Seal with a
French accent. Lead guitarist and alternate
singer/songwriter is Blues/Rocker and Face Studios
owner Rod Nichols. Khulekani Zondi is a qualified
traditional music graduate, music producer,
keyboardist, singer and songwriter who hails from
Zululand. Bongani Maduna, bassist extraordinaire,
Maskanda guitarist, singer/songwriter comes from
Port Shepstone. Jon Pimenta plays percussion and
Simon Cox is the band drummer from the UK.
Maisha
The band consists of 7 members from various genres
of music. Maisha’s music is of the World style and
ranges from Afro ballads to more up-tempo rhythmic
songs that are guaranteed to get you on your feet
and dancing. Songs are sung in English, Zulu,
Swahili and French and cover topics very relevant to
South African and African life at present. The
message that Maisha brings is to promote “Life”
which is a direct interpretation of the band name
itself.
No other band has been able to mix as much as they
do. The band they have been most likened to is “Freshlyground”,
and even they have not achieved what Maisha are able
to, and that is the ability to mix so many genres
along with so many other factors.
Maisha writes about relevant topics affecting Africa
today. They write about peace, love and harmony for
a country that needs and wants ambassadors of hope.
They are passionate, driven, and this is fast
becoming their total life. They are becoming
consumed by the demand. They are making all the
right waves in all of the right circles.
Maisha
The band has only been around for a total of 8
months and is already making waves in the local
scene. The mix of musicians and styles makes for a
very dynamic and entertaining gig.
Tresor Riziki recently came from the DRC to South
Africa. After only 2 months of being in the country
he had hooked up with Rod to form the band "Maisha".
Maisha
If you ever get the chance, have a sit down chat
with Tresor and listen to his life story which this
young dynamic man has already had. War, volcanoes,
pygmies, music, cross country hikes, crocodile
infested rivers, hardships and faith. His song
writing ability is uncanny, his voice, amazing.
Khulekani Zondi is qualified in Traditional Music
from UKZN and grew up in and around Westville.
Khulekani has produced some incredible artists and
is well known for his musical talents with the likes
of Renegade, Intanantla and Zah to name a few. He is
also an accomplished videographer and brings a style
of keyboards to the sounds of Maisha that adds a
fresh dimension to the vibe of the music. Khulekani
heads up eMamba music that provides music services
to all genres of music within South Africa, be it,
Hip Hop, Kwaito, Maskanda, Rock or Pop. He is also a
keen song-writer.
