Mdu Gumede Enest Thabane

Mdu Gumede Enest Thabane (also known as Ntandane Makhathini in the popular sopie called ISIBAYA ) (“Mdu”) was born on the 1st of March 1986 in a small township called Mthunzini located in KwaZulu-Natal.

Coming from a previously disadvantaged community and having lost his mother at a young age, Mdu found conforming in story telling and acting (some might say as a copying mechanism). Even in times where he had to endure the pain of moving from one family to another in search of some shelter, Mdu entertained himself and his little sister with inspirational short story (izinganekwane) of survival. During his school years and without any support (financial or otherwise) from his family (save for his little sister) he enrolling in numerous extra curricular activities involving theatre and small plays.

As a young adult Mdu further pursue his acting career through modeling which in turn taught him how to be disciplined, follow rules and guidance as well the ability to work in a team and high pressured environment.

What has been a highlight of Mdu’s career is his role in Isibaya where he plays a character that largely resembles his life and upbringing. Mdu joined Isibaya at its infancy and has been with show for approximately 6 (six) years. Isibaya provided and has continued to provide Mdu with an opportunity to enhance his acting skills by allowing him to work with prominent actors such as Siyabonga Twala, Vusi Kunene and Menzi Ngubane. Notwithstanding his level of experience in comparison to the abovementioned actors Mdu did not let their experience in the industry deter him from learning (from the best of the best) and developing his career. Isibaya airs on DStv, Mzanzi Magic Channel 161 on Mondays to Fridays with a viewership of approximately 2 000 000 (two million).

Mdu’s skills as an entertainer has further enabled him to pursue hobby in DJing and thus, further cementing his skills in working with other professional entertainers in his industry. Mdu is also a gym fanatic a hobby which further requires commitment and discipline.
