Nina Hastie is quite clearly one smart comedienne. She is undoubtedly one of SA’s top female comic and Pretoria’s finest comics. Nina confidently sashays onto stage with bounce and style, yet you can already feel the edginess oozing off her before she’s said a word. When she opens her mouth her material backs up the image in originality, and razor sharp observation and you immediately feel like you’re in the presence of someone who could easily be amongst the best.
Hastie has performed at major theatres around the country such as The State Theatre, Wits Theatre and Joburg Theatre. She has headlined comedy festivals such as The Tshwane Comedy Festival, Soweto Comedy Festival, the Wits Comedy Festival and The Nandos Comedy Festival. She has also entertained diverse crowds at Cool Runnings, Durban School of Comedy, Zula Bar (Cape Town), La Med (Cape Town) , Tanz cafe, Ozone, Wish, and Parkers Comedy and Jive, she has also performed extensively in Soweto, Katlehong, Vosloorus, and Alexandra, and is a favourite amongst the “Kasi-Comics”.
The sometimes controversial jester has appeared alongside premiere South African comics such as Joey Rasdien, Riaad Moosa, Chris Forest, Kagiso Lediga, Tumi Morake and Nick Rabinovitz, David Kau, Tshepo Mogale and many more.
The enterprising performer has voiced a variety of products in radio, television and radio and animated feature films.
In 1996 Nina Hastie made history by being the youngest radio host in the country alongside Matt Suttner. The then thirteen year olds produced and presented Ping Pong on the Radio Ripple.
The following five years she was the female voice of premiere M-Net children’s programme K-TV and popular regional youth radio station Yfm.
In 2003 she wrote copy and voiced all of the MTN Free To Speak campaign, including IVR, radio and TV campaign.
In 2010 the bilingual artist also recorded multiple characters for feature-animated films, The Adventures of Dick King and Bushfire Fairtytales.
She has since voiced radio and television commercials for brands such as: KFC, ABSA, 94.7 Highveld Stereo, DSTV, Nivea, Telkom, Diatsu, Standard Bank
