Shaun
Wewege - Comedian and MC - Johannesburg
Shaun is stand-up comedian, writer, spinning
instructor, Iron Man, Comrades Marathon finisher,
ginger and all round nice guy. From clubs to
corporate functions, on radio and on television, he
has kept audiences amused with his left-of-centre
take on life.
Whether he is hosting a radio show or blogging for a
fitness publication, Shaun’s wacky way of viewing
the world always keeps listeners and readers
amused.
Shaun developed his unique sense of humour at a
young age. You would too if you had bright red hair,
freckles and a surname no-one can pronounce. |

Despite the fact that Shaun grew up in southern
Johannesburg, he has somehow transformed himself
from ‘caveman to showman’, walking upright, using
his opposable thumbs, making fire; and causing
audiences to collapse with laughter just by being
himself.
Shaun has performed in some of South Africa’s most
prestigious comedy venues, and hasn’t left out some
of the dodgier ones either! From Joburg to Bloem and
Polokwane to Umhlanga – the man with the bizarre
surname has taken his own brand of comedy around the
country. A versatile act, Shaun is as comfortable
talking about current affairs as he is about making
human observations, including impressions as well as
‘left-of-centre’ humour. |

Shaun
Wewege
He has an interesting background – he hosted the
Wake-up Call on 90.6fm (Vaal Community Radio);
DJ’ed for a wide variety of corporate clients; is a
qualified spinning instructor; and currently writes
weekly columns as part of his editorship of both the
Cape.Town.co.za and Durbs.co.za e-zines. He is also
responsible for compiling the Joburg.co.za weekly
newsletter, which boasts a subscriber base of over
200,000 readers.
Shaun’s popularity as an act helped him reach the
final stages of the comedy competition “Survival of
the funniest.” The contest was based on audience
votes, and finalists in the competition appeared on
the popular comedy show Laugh Out Loud.

He has also appeared in a comedy segment on
Beetroot, a magazine show on DSTV’s Channel
Go! Furthermore, his material has featured on
Alex Jay’s show as part of The Five o’Clock
Funnies.
In addition to being a more than capable stand-up
comedian, Shaun is also a talented writer. He has
written for radio, magazines, online publications,
including speeches for high-profile UK Government
officials. |

The fact that he has taken on many roles in his
working career ensures that Shaun is able to
effectively and humorously communicate with diverse
audiences.
His approach to comedy is “a bit of something for
everyone”– he never dwells on one topic for too
long; is comfortable with both story telling and
delivering witty one liners and good old fashioned
jokes; and can easily switch between material that
stretches the mind.
So, if entertainment is a priority on your event
checklist, you’ll have one less thing to worry about
if you book Shaun for your function. |
