Sibongile Sibeko

Gospel Singer - Johannesburg
Sibongile Sibeko

Sibongile Sibeko publically made her mark on the South African music scene when she took first prize at the Radio Pulpit Tehila and Jubilate Singing Competition in 2011. The opera qualified singer entered the competition with hopes of sharing her ability with the world, a big dream that has begun to pay off. After captivating producer Danny Antill of Brettian Productions with her voice, Sibongile Sibeko signed a record deal with the label.

During her 4 years of preparation at the Tshwane University of Technology, the singer performed in the chorus of opera creations like La Traviata, Carmen, and Porgy and Bess to name a few. With professional openings few and far between in the theatrical world, Sibongile faithfully continued to perform at weddings, church events and events in the community. Perhaps her greatest highpoint to date (courtesy of Spirit Music) will be opening for David Phelps (The Gaithers) in both Johannesburg and Cape Town in June 2012.

Sibongile has been engulfed by musical influence all her life. Her parents both sang in the church and the communal. Her husband, Sipho Sibeko also shares the stage with her in leading reverence at their church. Accompanist of 8 years, Nehemiah Kwonglee will be continuing the musical journey with Sibongile. Sibongile cannot read music but would love to learn piano and guitar. “I aim to collaborate with fellow gospel artists around South Africa. She draws musical encouragement from the likes of Jonathan Butler, Mahalijah from Joyous Celebration and Spirit of Praise.

Outside of her singing, Sibongile enjoys watching movies, travelling and socializing.
