The Gentle Jazz Duo -  Musicians - Cape Town

 

Gentle Jazz’s repertoire covers all the classics of the ‘Jazz Age’ made famous by musicians such as Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington and Count Basie, along with some more modern numbers sung by Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and other great artists of the 50s and 60s.

Mike Laatz (saxophones) and Eddie Kirkwood (keyboards) have been working together for the past few years in and around Cape Town. In addition to the many corporate functions, parties and weddings at which they have played, they also played every Thursday night at Jakes Tokai, and every Saturday night at Jakes Kenilworth for over a year.

They also play at Catherina’s Restaurant at  Steenberg regularly. Both Mike and Eddie also play with other bands, and are very active in and around Cape Town, both being full-time musicians.
 

Their Sundowners CD has been selling well both locally and overseas, and has been featured as CD of the week on two radio stations.  They have also recorded several other CDs individually.

Mike’s CD with Andrew Ford, in addition to being sold worldwide, is being used as a marketing tool by the Pam Golding Property Group.

The music of Mike and Eddie  is gentle and unobtrusive, and is intended to enhance the ambience of functions, rather than provide “in your face” entertainment.
