The Jazz Minkeys is Durbans own Post-Modern Jazz Orchestra, which is to say a big old Eclectic Jazz band line up that takes a cheeky look back through our collective musical heritage.
This is a fun and entertaining band that covers a vast repertoire of material from 1920s Speakeasy Jazz to some Current material, songs from New York to Rio to Cape Town and some original material.
Our originally arranged repertoire covers a broad cross section of Music from early Traditional material through to some modern popular hits. Louis Armstrong, Johnny Cash, Burt Bacharach, Hugh Masekela, Pharrell Williams and some of our own original compositions.
We understand that any good song is good music regardless of the genre that originated it. Coming from a jazz background we put that perspective to our arrangements and try to consider the layout of every performance to make it a fun and colourful experience for both the audience and ourselves.
The Minkeys power house line up includes a collection of heavy hitters from the Durban Jazz scene, each member a recorded artist/composer/Arranger and band leader in their own right: The Line up includes but is not limited to : Neil Gonsalves on Piano, Demi Fernandez on Guitar, Ildo Nandja on Bass, Zoe Masuku and Nosihe Zulu on vocals, Riley Giandhari on Drums, Tom hare on Sax and Daniel Sheldon on Trumpet.
