Savithri Naidoo, a senior student of dance guru Indira Rajan, is the founder of Vadhini Arts Academy in Cape Town, South Africa. She has been teaching dance for the past 26 years.
The Vadhini Indian Arts Academy in Cape Town, is the first Indian dance academy in the Cape Province with a 26-year track record in staging both small, community-oriented events and large-scale performances at various venues both locally and internationally and recently participated in the 10-year Independence Celebrations in Cape Town, which was televised live nationally.
Vadhini, the top Indian dance company in Cape Town, produces a classical dance production to live music that promises to enthral the pure Indian dance and music lover. They showcase an 80 minute rhythmic programme which includes a 10 minute drum (mridingam) call and answer component as well as the stylised Bharata Natyam dance.
Vadhini has hosted a number of exotic shows presenting Indian dance in its original classical styles and innovative modern twist. Twenty six years of hard work and dedication by Vadhin teachers, dancers and parents has increased the awareness and understanding of this beautiful art form.
In the new South Africa, which respects, protects and promotes cultural diversity, artistic director, Savritri Naidoo, has seized the opportunity to consolidate, strengthen and widen the scope for cross-cultural expression by taking the Indian arts beyond the confines of the Indian community to include a fusion all dance forms.
