Ard Matthews from Just Jinger
Ard has been active in the SA music industry since the 1990’s, he was the frontman of rock band Just Jinjer. Just Jinjer have shared the stage with many local and international acts, most notably at the Nelson Mandela 46664 Concert, Johannesburg in 2009 where they performed with the likes of The Goo Goo Dolls, Annie Lennox, Razorlight, Ludacris, Corrinne Bailey Rae, Peter Gabriel, Live, and Angélique Kidjo. They have also performed support duties, and shared the bill with many international stars such as U2, Counting Crows, Def Leppard, INXS, Maroon 5, One Republic, Hootie and the Blowfish, The Strokes, and many more.
About Ard Matthews
Matthews was born in Johannesburg but grew up in the Durban. His mom raised him in a strict religious household with limited exposure to popular music. Ard Matthew fortunately did listen to the likes of Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong and Elvis Presley, which gave him the inspired him to enter a talent competition as a singer when 12 years old.
During school, Matthews learnt to play the drums. In 1996, he along with other fellow musicians, Brent Harris and Denholm Harding, started the rock band Just Jinjer, playing original rock songs.
Matthews was heavily involved in the writing, recording, production and engineering of his second solo album ‘Impossible Machines’. The album blends rock, electronic and smooth rhythms set against Matthew’s strong voice.
