Kristel studied a MMUS degree WITS University. For her academic performance at WITS, she was awarded a Scholarship for music as well as a prize for the best string player. In her final year, Kristel majored in music performance. During her studies, she performed regularly at the Lunch Hour concerts, the Wits orchestra concerts and for the Wits Baroque Ensemble.
After completing her degree, she continued performing with various classical ensembles, jazz groups, bands and musical theatre productions and session recordings.
Kristel has collaborated on a number of CDs and recordings, two of which have received nominations for at the South African Music Awards (SAMAS) and are play-listed on local radio stations.
She regularly performs live for various concerts, festivals and events and is an in-demand session violinist for various projects around the world.
On-screen performances include cameo slots as a violinist on many local TV dramas.
As a singer-songwriter with her duo Cherry Pill, she has toured various countries and received two nominations in the 2020/2021 International Acoustic Music Awards (IAMA) for her duo’s original music.
In 2022, Kristel was selected as a semi-finalist in the International Song writing Competition (ISC), Instrumental Category for her original violin composition ‘Wildflower’ and received a Bronze Medal for the song from the Global Music Awards.
