Michael Charton: Bringing History to Life
Michael Charton is a celebrated South African storyteller and the founder of Inherit South Africa. Driven by the belief that history is best understood through the human heart, Michael has dedicated his career to transforming dry facts into gripping, human-centric narratives that bridge the gap between our past and our present.
Michael’s path to storytelling was anything but conventional. He began his career as a Chartered Accountant, qualifying at the University of Cape Town before honing his expertise in financial advisory and M&A in the United States. Returning to South Africa, he stepped into the fast-paced world of advertising as a Financial Director for giants like Publicis Machine and FCB.
It was here, amidst spreadsheets and strategy, that he discovered a hidden talent for storytelling while training his team. Captivated by the power of a well-told tale, Michael took a leap of faith in 2015, resigning from the corporate world to follow his true calling: uncovering and sharing the soul of South African history.
