About Schalk Brits
Schalk Brits was a powerful hooker who helped his country capture the Rugby World Cup in 2019. He has also enjoyed a highly distinguished domestic career, where he represented the Stormers, Saracens and a number of other elite sides. Schalk was inducted into the RugbyPass Hall of Fame in 2021.
Born 16 May 1981, Schalk Brits made his debut for the Western Province in 2002. However, after only making 12 appearances for the side, he left and joined the Golden Lions, where he found regular game time. Following this, he enjoyed a stint at the Cats (2005) before he re-joined the Western Province (2006-09) and began playing Super Rugby for the Stormers (2006-09).

At the end of the 2009 season, Schalk left South African rugby and signed for Saracens. He then stayed with the English giants until 2018, although he did enjoy a brief loan spell back at the Stormers in 2011. During his time with Saracens, he made more than 200 appearances for the side. He also won the Premiership title four times and the Heineken Champions Cup twice. He then returned to the Bulls in 2019, where he retired.
Between 2008 and 2019, Schalk Brits represented South Africa 15 times. His greatest achievement came in 2019, when he was selected to play for South Africa in the Rugby World Cup. He captained the side against Namibia and was a vital member of the squad that won the trophy.
