Thabiso Masemene started his formal voice training in 2004 with Mr Pierre du Toit with the Tshwane University of Technology. In 2005 he joined the Black Tie Ensemble where in the same year he understudied three roles by Donizetti, Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore, Ernesto in Don Pasquale and Renuccio in Gianni Schischi by Puccini; in 2006 he played his professional debut at The South African State Theatre performing, Beppe in I Pagliaci by Leoncavallo. Thabiso is also part of a successful group called the Gaabo-motho Tenors; this group has travelled several times to Germany and Uganda, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Nigeria. In 2007 he went back to study at Tshwane University of Technology and graduated Cum Laude in his National Diploma certificate, then completed his Bachelor’s Degree in 2009.

As he was still with the University he played Nemorino in L’Elisir d’amore, Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte and Story Teller in Ntsikana by Henning Wargner. Sacred music performances are Obajah in Elijah and Mozart Requiem. In 2010 he went to Germany to sing in an international festival called Schelswig Holstein Music Festival. He sang Brindisi with the world famous Renee Fleming in the South African State Theatre. In 2011 he performed the role of Don Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro, produced by Opera Africa. Thabiso played the role of Ubaldo Piangi in The Phantom of the Opera world tour; he has already performed more than five hundred (500) shows in this role. He already has performed this role in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Manila, Seoul, Bangkok, Singapore, Shanghai, Daegu, Taipei, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Guangzhou and lastly Beijing.

He also played Ramiro in La Cerenerentola as an alumni student with the Tshwane University of Technology in 2014. He also did a short Acting on Screen course in Randburg, and then later on did a bit of voiceover sessions with Dana Prophet. 2017-2018 he was in the International tour of Evita the Musical. Thabiso was also invited to sing for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Birthday concert which took place in South Korea at the Sejong Art Center . 2019-2020 He revisited the tour of The Phantom of the Opera that visited most Asian countries including Dubai and Tel Aviv. In 2022 he sang the role of Judas Maccabaeus with The Playhouse.

Thabiso also sings as a guest artist at The MSC Cruises with The Gaabo Motho Tenors. He also sings in a number of corporate events in South Africa and Africa at large. Thabiso is also part of the artists who perform annually at the 67 Blankets Charity Concerts hosted by Carolyn Steyn. Thabiso is gifted, flexible, and highly successful performer, who brings confidence and authority to every role. Thabiso was also part of the world renowned Disney 100 Years Celebration Concert that was performed in Johanessburg and Cape Town. He recently sang the Argentinian Anthem at a rugby test match between South Africa and Argentina.
