Sphiwe Moya, known as Umzulu Phaqa, is an isiZulu storyteller and singer-songwriter from rural KwaZulu-Natal whose sound moves freely between Afro-soul, Afropop, house, and hip-hop, steeped in heritage, alive in the present.
Named Apple Music's Up Next (2025) and SABC One Wave's One to Watch, Umzulu has built her following the hard way. Through performance, authenticity, and music that stays with you. Her viral single Mam'gobhozi (2025), released raw and unmastered, sparked conversation across South Africa and announced her as one of the most important new voices in the country. She is featured on Sjava's Platinum-certified Isibuko album, with collaborations spanning Prince Kaybee, Sun-El Musician, Citizen Deep, Nobuhle, and Darkie Fiction.
